Types of Ireland Work Visas & Permits

Contract for Services Permit

  • For foreign companies providing services in Ireland under a contract.
  • Typically valid for up to two years, may renew.
  • Can form part of a long-term residency strategy by switching to other permits later.

Dependent/Partner/Spouse Permit

  • Investment-based streams:
  • No fee, and allows dependents to work in Ireland legally by their own permit.

Application Process & Stages

  • Secure a job offer from a registered Irish employer meeting salary and skill thresholds.
  • Employer (or employee) submits the permit application via the Employment Permits Online System (EPOS).
  • Pay the permit fee: typically €1,000 (or €500 for six-month permits).
  • Wait for approval: Processing generally takes 4–8 weeks for most permits, longer if labour market testing is required.
  • If applicable, apply for an entry visa (Long-Stay D Visa) via INIS—€60 for single entry, €100 for multiple entry.
  • Upon arrival, register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) to receive an Irish Residence Permit (IRP or Stamp 4/Stamp 1G)
